Participants at the 28th International Dr. İbrahim Arıkan MEF Educational Institutions Research Projects Awards have received their awards in the presence of guest of honour Ms. Evrim Kuran.

Participants at the “28th International Dr. İbrahim Arıkan MEF Educational Institutions Research Projects Contest”, organized in cooperation with MEF Schools and MEF University, with the aim of encouraging high school students to research in the fields of physics, chemistry and biology, have received their awards. Guest of honour Ms. Evrim Kuran, Generation Researcher, attended the award ceremony where 90 projects from 15 countries including Turkey took part as finalists.

Projects were exhibited at MEF University from 7 to 9 May, 2019. First place was awarded to Izmir Çakabey High School in the field of Physics, Izmir Private Oguzhan Özkaya College of Science in the field of Chemistry and Private Antalya Exam Anatolia High School in the field of Biology amongst the national finalists.

First place was awarded to Georgia in the field of Physics, Poland in Chemistry, and Northern Macedonia in Biology amongst the international finalists.

American Robert College (Istanbul) won the award for innovation.

The award ceremony of the “28th International Dr. İbrahim Arıkan MEF Educational Institutions Research Projects Contest” held since 1992, was held on Friday, May 10, 2019 at MEF Schools Ulus Campus with the participation of Generation Researcher Ms. Evrim Kuran.

Following the pre elimination of 701 projects submitted from across the world, 90 projects from 15 countries including Turkey qualified as finalists.

Generation Researcher Ms. Evrim Kuran, providing a remarkable speech at the award ceremony, pointed out that the competition in question is an important platform combining education and entrepreneurship in our country. In her speech Ms. Kuran told us why it is important to be a researcher and inquirer as part of the Z generation and which competencies should be equipping ourselves with today to be successful in the future. She continued: The famous physicist Albert Einstein says “I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious.” In our current world where there is a dizzying amount of change being passionate enough can be considered a special talent. Ms. Kuram reminded us all that “Why” is a very precious question, it brings us the wisdom. The greatest capital of the 21st century is hope, optimism and belief in the future. The world and its demographics are changing. We are part of an aging world. When we see the problems of the world we have to turn the problems into opportunities. True innovators and entrepreneurs are those who intend to solve a problem of the world. Ms. Kuram reminds us that we need to be more than our CVs, more than our diplomas and that we need to venture down to the wells in our hearts through the rope of our minds.

The projects which were exhibited at MEF University for three days as of May 07, 2019 were presented to the public and to the jury.

This year, high school students drew attention to green synthesis through biomedical, nano-technological materials produced for wastewater treatment and sensor purposes, production of functional polymers and composites, controlled drug delivery tools and artificial photosynthesis tools in the field of energy, effects of natural resources on biotechnological, treatment and environmental applications, applications based on software combined with data information, tissue engineering, investigation of basic science mechanisms related to disease, providing unique solutions to problems that can serve the benefit of society with known experimental techniques, development of new and original measurement techniques.

It was noted that the students who participated in the 28th of the competition, which was open to the participation of all young people except for those studying at MEF Educational Institutions, were extremely knowledgeable on the areas of research and they could establish systems according to their needs.

Students from Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Georgia, Iraq, Montenegro, Kosovo, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Hungary, Northern Macedonia, Poland, Slovenia and Turkey attended the contest. International students experienced the excitement and honour of representing their countries in the international arena.
